Doreen Bland plays a pivotal role in AIA’s governance as Secretary to the Council. She leads the implementation and oversight of our corporate governance framework, ensuring that AIA’s Constitution, Bye-laws, and regulatory obligations are upheld with precision and integrity. Her work supports the Council’s strategic decision-making and ensures full compliance across the organisation.
With a career spanning public service and education, Doreen brings a wealth of experience to her role. She previously held senior positions within the Civil Service and the Water Authority, where she developed a strong understanding of regulatory systems, public accountability, and operational governance. Earlier in her career, she worked as a secondary school teacher, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to education and ethical leadership.
Doreen’s expertise ensures AIA’s governance processes reflect best practice and remain aligned with the expectations of our regulators, including the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA). She plays a key role in maintaining transparency, advising on constitutional matters, and supporting Council members in their duties.
In addition, Doreen is a committed advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within AIA’s leadership. She delivers our corporate governance training programme and actively supports initiatives that promote gender balance and inclusive representation across the Council.
