Founded in 1928 in the United Kingdom, the Association of International Accountants (AIA) is a respected professional body for accountants and finance professionals. With a long-established reputation for excellence in education and ethical standards, AIA supports a diverse and international membership committed to professional growth and integrity.

AIA promotes public confidence in the profession through rigorous qualifications, strong regulatory frameworks and a clear commitment to advancing professional standards. Members are bound by a Constitution and Code of Ethics, and we work closely with governments, regulators and standard setters to ensure accountability, recognition and trust across the sector.

Regulatory Recognition and Professional Standing

AIA is a Recognised Qualifying Body for statutory auditors in the UK, regulated by the Financial Reporting Council and listed on the UK government’s Regulated Professions Register. In the Republic of Ireland, AIA is a Prescribed Body under the Companies (Auditing and Accounting) Act 2014 and a supervisory body under Money Laundering Regulations in both jurisdictions. AIA practising certificate holders benefit from wide-ranging statutory and professional recognition, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to maintaining high standards and public trust.

AIA actively seeks further accreditation and independent regulation to ensure its qualifications and members remain respected, accountable and aligned with the expectations of governments, regulators and professional stakeholders.

International Recognition and Global Engagement

AIA’s professional qualification has been independently benchmarked by UK ENIC as comparable to Level 7 on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework. An independent review has also mapped the qualification against international education frameworks, supporting global recognition and mobility for members.

AIA is a member of the European Federation of Accountants and Auditors for SMEs (EFAA), an IFAC Network Partner representing over 400,000 professionals across Europe. As a Commonwealth accredited organisation, AIA upholds the values of democracy, human rights, gender equality and sustainable development outlined in key Commonwealth Declarations, reinforcing its role as a trusted and principled voice in international accountancy.
